Page titles, Google Search Console and your sitemap
4 min · 4 steps
Short answer
Edit titles and descriptions in ⋯ → SEO & Meta. Paste your Google verification code in ⋯ → Settings → Search Console, publish, and click Verify in Google. Your sitemap is made for you at /sitemap.xml; submit it once in Search Console.
1Edit page titles and descriptions
Open ⋯ → SEO & Meta. Each page has a Page title (best 30–60 characters) and a Meta description (best 80–160). This is the text Google shows in search results. Click Save on the page you changed.
Each page has its own Google title and description. 2Verify your site in Google Search Console
In Google Search Console, add your site as a URL-prefix property and choose the HTML tag method. Copy the code. In SOSEI, open ⋯ → Settings → Search Console, paste the code (the whole tag or just the code), save, then click Verify in Google.
3Submit your sitemap
SOSEI creates your sitemap automatically at
https://your-domain/sitemap.xmland updates it when you add or delete pages. In Search Console, open Sitemaps, typesitemap.xmland click Submit. You only do this once.4Publish to put it live
Everything you change is saved as a draft first, so visitors keep seeing the previous version while you work. When you're happy, click the green Publish changes button at the top right (it says Go live the very first time). The message Your changes are live confirms it.
The green button only appears while you have unpublished changes.
Good to know
- When you publish, SOSEI tells Bing and other IndexNow search engines about the change automatically.
- SEO edits are free and don't use AI edits. For help writing them, ask the chat: "Better SEO for the home page".
